Advertisement Mockup

The purpose of this project was to create a magazine advertisement mockup using pre-existing assets from magazines in order to create something new.

I took it as an exercise in using limited assets in order to make an advertisement for the magazine the assets came from.

The assets used all came from a now defunct magazine called Amiga Computing issued in June 1988 and published by Europress and International Data Group, Inc.

Pre-planning and Research

I took handwritten notes on magazine advertisements prior to choosing a magazine to work from for this assignment. These helped me understand placement of any of any of all the images, logos, texts, etc. for a magazine page. My study of web and application development during my time at Purdue Northwest helped me confirm what worked and did not work for various pages. After this, I flipped through a multitude of old magazines before settling on Amiga Computing.

I decided on doing a mail-order mockup advertisement.

Asset Consolidation

I went through the June 1988 issue and marked down specific images and blocks of texts that I believed would work the best before settling on the assets cut out from the right. I then began editing and making a mock-up of what an advertisement from that time would look like in Photoshop.

This is the final render I ended up with. I made sure it would fit right in with the magazine when I created this. When I presented this to the class this was for, they thought I ripped it straight out of the magazine.

Final Render

The final render for this project looks like what an advertisement from this time would look like.
